I’m trying to decide what to do on my build. One question I have is did mid productions tigers have the reinforced turret ring?

A quick little search on the interwebs yielded this gem. Turret ring armour protection was initiated in Jan 1943, but didnt appear on production models until Febuary 1944 apparently.

I think I’ll just get the plates along with the travel lock. I think that would be the way to go since it’s unlikely the mid had the turret ring:(

Just say its a field modification. Unless you are building a super specific tank, it's all gravy boss. End of the day it's your tank and your model. Build it to what suits you.

Hey there Daz...

Interesting Tiger to model, #312 belonged to the 505th PzAbt based in Russia Nr Augustowo . There are a few nice pictures of this tank (Fgst Nr 250825) taken out in the field. As a good example of how individual scale modelling can be, this vehicle although shown in your picture as having the Turmfugenschutz (Turret ring protection plate) was in fact built prior to the first Hull to have them fitted beginning with Fgst Nr 250850. That’s not to say it could not have had one, all modifications whilst having a documented application date seem to be very hap hazard in their implementation and can take a while to see in place until parts arrived or old items used up.

It is possible for 505th Tiger 1’s Mid Production rubber road wheel version to have Turmfegunschutz as on the 6th June and the 17th June 1944 they received 6 and 3 Tiger 1 respectively from the Armour repair facility at Sanok Poland which re distributed Tigers brought in for repair. Their diary does not say they were Mid or Late examples, so any thing is possible.

It is very much your build, getting them up and running and finished(ha!) is more important than super accurate details. 8)

I thought that particular tank was a late production one that’s why it had the ring and the reinforced roof plates on the turret. Hmmm I’m placing an order for those plates and the travel lock now.
