I’m planning to buy the 1/16th scale Elefant tank destroyer from Hooben and I want to see what you guys think of the vehicle itself. Is it worth the money or not? Thanks

yeah its a good tank but i wouldn't recommend it for a beginner ,there a few items that need sorting

I'm during work on it. Model is challenging. Some elements need to be strengthened, like upper body structure. Details are nice (for Hooben). Mechanicaly is not bad but in my kit some parts were missing (brass tubes). I'm planning to change it to bearings anyway. Gearbox is nice and metal but way too fast.

But if I could reverse time I would spend money for Asiatam full metal Elefant. Unfortunately now it's out of stock.

the better alternative is the elephant from Asiatam made of metal. The rollers are ball-bearing and you get enough spare parts. At the moment even one is offered relatively cheap

Overall, the model is more detailed and has excellent driving characteristics due to its weight. The parts should all be cleaned before assembly (metal scrapers) and the adjustment of the suspension requires some work.

Ok thanks about the Elefant kit version but if you don’t mind me asking, what about the rtr version of the Hooben Elefant?

Hooben are Infamous for increadably poor quality, I have their 1/16 Maus and the internals and overall build quality are shockingly bad, for example it cannot turn at all due to awful gearboxes and the elevation motot is quite strong and fitted with a steel gear but it is working against an incredably soft plastic gear to elevate the gun so the steel gear stripped the plastic one almost instantly

I also found out the hard way that they actively lie about their products for example the Maus is advertised everywhere as Full Metal (like a Mato tank) but when it arrived large parts like the gun mantlet exhausts and all the hatches are cheap plastic painted silver to look like metal, the turret ring was also artificially limited to 320 degrees as oposed to the advertised 360

I would strongly recomend staying away form Hooben unless you are confident with modifying the main structure of the tank

Having known them long before they became Hooben, I'd follow Koenigstiger 007 & STHV's advice.
