looking for a new tank as a Christmas present been looking at Thekkkuki T34/85 Heng Long with metal tracks and gearbox . Have anybody had one and what’s your opinion of them

I have the most recent v6.0 release of the metal version from Haya and in all respects its superb, including the new steel gearboxes. You'll probably want the Taigen metal tow cables, engine cover etch and driving lamp and you can mount the on/off switch just inside the drivers hatch but from the UK this should all be available for just over 200 quid. I've added the Berlin stripes to mine. Naf photo, but behind it is the 400 quid odd Torro version and behind that the Torro/Trumpeter version, about 100 quid but outclassed.

You're clearly a T34 fan, GenJ. I have only one, and it's the Torro Metal edn. that arrived in its own wooden crate- cum- sarcophagus. I think it's very neatly put together, inside and out; but I particularly like the simulated rough, pitted look of the turret. Having seen the T34 up very close, I'd say it's a pretty fair rendering of the crude casting techniques used in the T34's production.

Just in case anyone is interested, l masked the stripes and then used a white paint pen. Although l have an airbrush, l wanted a realistic white paint applied by a roller or broom head effect and the paint pen allows you to apply in strokes with uneven coverage, just like the real thing. I used one of Forgebear's own water slide decal sets for the lettering then gave the whole turret a coat of Tamiya flat white.

I took me a little to find that mine had the name of a famous 18th century Russian general, Suvorov, painted on it. It seemed odd to me, that a General from the time of the Tsars would be so highly regarded in Stalin's era...

I guess you need to remember that some of the hand painted words on Russian tanks were added free hand by its crew. Any thing goes!

Oh, yes, l do like the T34. My first RC tank was a v3 Henglong metal version one, now a donor hull for my SU-100 currently in build. It now has a new Taigen mfu and IR parts to support IR/recoil etc., all parts from Dave.

So...back to thread topic!

I've been running mine on plastic tracks & zinc gear boxes, no problems as yet. Run nicely (mine is 2nd gen HL 2.4GHz) and plenty of scope for upgrades later on.
