Hello From Surrey

Good morning , I live in Surrey , and have just purchased my first RC tank , an HL Challenger 2 . I've had some experience with RC electric cars in the past , so have a basic grasp on some of the core principles , but indeed it's a new venture for the most part. I have a family history with armoured fighting vehicles , my dad worked at MVEE Chobham 1980-87 , and knew a lot of the people that helped develop the technology that is so well known in the tank community . I also work not far from the old site at Longcross , which is now a film studio. I have a long held interest in tanks, military & civil aircraft etc , so very happy with my new acquisition ( the cat , not so much
) . Hope to check out some of the builds & mods by members very soon , thank you

Welcome to the Forum
Your limited knowledge of RC is more than many of the new members bring here,
The HL Challenger is a good base from which to start, Lots of upgrades available and with enough internal space to allow newbie fingers to work without doing any damage,
We took great pleasure in the service trying to prove that there really was nothing that was Soldier proof no matter what FVRDE said.
We looked upon Chobham as a challenge to be overcome

Cheers , service you say ? what regiment , sir ( Yoda voice ) NB ..fortnight ago , my partners stepdad who is a heating / plumbing engineer , put in a new boiler at our place , and the other plumber with him saw the tank , and told me he was in the Lancers years ago . Ticked all the boxes when I mentioned Suffield BATUS etc , so I reckon he was genuine . Anyhow , thanks all

Hello and welcome (almosta neighbour!). Great to have another HL Challenger 2 on board and another former serviceman (??). If you want a little insight into general modding of your Challenger have a little nose at my build thread - not very artistic but (I hope) soe interesting pics on what can be done - not too bad for a former Bootneck
PS Can you find out what those two American post box things (next to the headlights) do and PM me
(Bovington weren't too interested in giving me a clue LOL)

Oh, and welcome neighbour from Surrey.
Maybe some things on modern tanks, especially tanks in current service aren't meant to have some secrets openly shared
My father spent his time trying to destroy tanks, specialising in Rommel's collection
I'm glad you openly mentioned it is your first tank, because this hobby never stops at just one lol.

No mate - the fire extinguishers are located on the wings - these boxes are just outboard of the headlamps (but onboard of the fire extinguishers)
