Put a few drops of the provided oil in the smoke unit with no resulting smoke ,check to be be sure it was working (yep) so added more ,now noticed what appears to be some oil being pushed up the exhaust tubes,afraid I may have now over filled the unit,is this possible? If so what’s the easiest way of sucking some of the oil out

Some oil is getting on exhaust pipe inside. I understand it is the way it works. Not because it's overfilled. What smoke unit is it?

Put the tank on a block and run it full throttle. If you don't get smoke after 10 seconds you can try to remove fluid with a syringe and the tube from the bottle, or you can remove the unit and turn it upside down to see if any fluid runs out. These smoke units are famous for failing but I never worried much since they're only ten bucks to replace. Pretty much every time I order anything from Imex I tell them to throw in a smoker and an airsoft unit, since those are also famous for failure. The new MFUs have proportional smoke, but that means pretty much zero smoke at idle, hence the block approach. You can't really tell what a smoker is doing unless it's getting full voltage.

Whichever one comes with a Taigen metal Tiger!

Don't forget with a "Tarr" Smoker if you don't get any smoke on initial start up switch on the Tank and stop the fan with your finger for 30 seconds or so to allow the wick to heat up then release the fan and you should have smoke.

You know how we are always complaining about the lack of space inside the tank to do mods? Think of the smoker as an opportunity. Remove it when new, bin it and fit something useful instead, something that works, isn't too noisy, doesn't make a mess and something that looks realistic! Like a.... well anything really!

You guessed it. I'm not a fan.

I am not a fan of smokers either but you can have a smoker in a small hull such as a PZ111/4 if you buy a Mato twin speaker set which I have tried in one of my PZ4s which replaces the bulkier Taigen speaker,
The Mato set are both narrow and deep so that they sit either side of the smoker and are firmly located by "Velcro" strips I glued to their bases.

BUT hurry he has very few left.
I needed long narrow speakers for my WSN/Torro M16 Halftrack unfortunately the Mato speakers are too big for the M16 but go to EBay and there are various Chinese vendors selling smaller long speakers,
Just don't expect Wharfedale speaker quality

One thing also that I read is that the Tarr smokers will not work with the new Taigen V3 electronic’s

I use "Tarr" Smokers in a lot of my tanks But as you have observed they do not work in a Taigen equipped with a V3 MFU,
The trouble then begins because the regular Heng Long/Taigen Smoker is too wide to sit beside the Heng Long/Taigen Speaker hence my fitting a Mato Speaker set to a PZ4 with a Taigen V3 Board and a Taigen Smoker,
It all fits and more importantly it all works.
