RC Tank Warfare community hobby forum

Hello Everyone,

My name is Nick, have just signed on today. Always been interested in battle tanks, mainly WW2 era, both axis and allied tanks.

Looking to buy my first R/C tank soon, will want some advice on one to buy, will post in the correct forum,

Hi Nick Welcome to the Forum
Deciding which Tank to buy should in my opinion be your second decision, Your first ought to be from whom you buy it.
It will set your mood for a long time into the future I promise you.
Where in the World are you ?
The USA is quite poorly served whereas in Europe the problem is more about picking the Angels from the Shysters, Australia and New Zealand have a very limited pool But the www can reach most of us wherever we are. most of us have our favourite dealers.
This is a hobby with lots of hidden costs and it can get very expensive very quickly so make sure your partner and your Bank Manager are on side
Ask lots of questions and enjoy this place.

Thanks for the reply. I'm from Cambridgeshire, UK. I've seen a few shops online, but again not sure what ones, can you or any members recommended any dealers here in the UK?

Aye aye Nick and welcome.

From what I've learnt in my pretty limited time in this hobby Tamiya are the gold standard (build quality & detail) and Heng Long are the budget option (still seem to have good detail etc) but with loads of upgrade options. I believe Taigen/Torro/Mato are somewhere in the middle.

As to suppliers/manufacturers - personally I would decide on what model/tank I want first and then see which manufacturers offer it and then either find a local stockist or look at some of the on-line sellers.

Be careful though as it can be a complete worm-hole - I started off with a Heng Long Challenger 2 and have replaced almost the entire thing several times over and have spent easily 4 times the original purchase price on upgrades

The advertised prices usually do not include VAT or postage so you need to look a little closer at the product advertisement to discover its true price,
The dealer is not trying to fool you, He sells a lot of product to the trade where VAT and other overheads do not apply,

Dave is a member of this Forum and is probably the straightest dealer in our hobby, He is a Taigen Dealer and when I need parts Dave is my first port of call,
Then there is "Nitrotek" Please save yourself aggravation and avoid this dealer, We get far to many Horror stories about them,
There is also "Tankzone" which some people big up and some people avoid like the plague.
Howes in Kidlington, near Oxford is an old fashioned Toy Shop with an on line shop selling a limited range of Heng Long armour, -----

The advantage is the prices are low the downside is that it is a toy shop and not a specialist dealer BUT they will not abandon you if you have a problem.
Now we come to Dominik at ------

As you see it is a German based dealer who also sells Taigen Products,
