Hello

Thought I would make a build thread and show how I went about making some scale sandbags for my Sherman build, they end up 20mm x 40mm.

Step 1
I used an old white cotton t shirt measure a rectangle 50mm x 45mm

Step 2
Using a 30cm ruler I marked out 6 at a time

and cut out your 6 rectangles

Step 3
Fold in half to make 25mm x 45mm then sew the open side and one end (the bottom) I managed this on a sewing machine after practice but can be done by hand with small stitches when finished turn inside out (I used a pencil)

Step 4
Make super strong tea I used bowl and 2 tea bags leave to soak until required colour and add salt to help fix dye

Step 5
I filled 3/4 with fine sand then used thick brown thread to tie the top then watered down PVA to the top

Then when dry apply to what ever you made them for

Great tutorial!

I did something like that, but instead of using tee, I used coffee, and I still had to paint the bags a bit.

Regarding the filling, I started using sand, but after some time it ended damaging the suspension, and making it very nose heavy. I took those sandbags out, and I did new ones filled with cotton.

All of them are glued to a green cloth, so I can remove all of them at once in one second if I need it.

Morning all,

Another method to throw into the mix, I bought this a couple of years ago, it's a one piece resin set which is very easy to put in place and remove, the spare road wheel and track is also part of the mould, I think the sandbags were made from milliput and shaped to the tank then a resin cast made from this, I used vallejo paints and a dark wash to finish it all off

Cheers, Lee. Image

Three excellent frontal sandbag armour tips here

Just one question, with the drivers hatch closed, how does the driver see where he's going
