Hmmm, nice idea. A few months ago I read a story in military machines about a load of Buried tanks and turrets used as a line of fortifications in , I think Yugoslavia. So it has been done but wasnt heavy on pictures so having said that the worlds your mollusc mate.

I was thinking of using my spares as pillboxes - trouble is that I keep giving them away!
The atlantic wall featured a lot of turrets from french tanks dug in, and I remember seeing russian turrets used the same way (altho knowing them they just buried the entire tank! ::) )
I'l still toying with the idea of making a command line version that would elminate the need for a radio. The elevation and traverse motors are simple devices, so all you need is a on-off-on toggle switch to move them and a suitable power source (ie a bunch of batteries).
Tankhobby.com's battle circuit would be ideal for this application as it can be triggered by a simple 'push to make' switch - no need to spend $$$ on a DBC and all the HL stuff needed to make things move, Nick's circuit is ~ $100 and comes with all the parts except a suitable speaker.

I've seen Tiger turrets mounted on concrete blocks used for training gunnery crews, but im pretty sure the idea was used with panther turrets.
Cheers,

The Syrians bought a lot of surplus PZIV's (and the odd Stug) from Spain in the 50's and used them as gun emplacements on the Golan heights. Some are still there. I think these were originally buried up to the turret, although most current pictures show them 'in the open' following their changing hands.

Wasn't there a huge paper Tiger, that was about the size of a block of flats, quadruple tracks, and had a turret on each corner? I am sure I saw a pic somewhere on the web. They apparently abandoned the concept because for some strange reason it would have sank in the mud?

Hi The germans used allsorts of turrets from panzer 1 to Tiger turrets to make pillboxes have seen panther turrets used where they are level with the ground just the turret ,the one Ive seen photos of was at a crossroad ,These can be made into I.R. battle units all you need to do it is the RX18 board and the Bsu ,it could be posible to operate 2 units from one battle unit ,using the same channel ,see posts on panzerketten of some the guys in Germany have made. There are more if you want to look for them .
