Hi.
Been looking at Shermans, someone has said the newer one from Heng Long has 2 sounds which is an improvement over the original system.
Has the Tiger had similar improvements?
Thanks

Hi. The latest electronic set has Tiger and Leopard if I’m not mistaken. The Tiger sounds are better than ever before

Stop kidding yourself: buy one of each!

I have both with the 2 sound (v5.3) mfu and both kits are very nice. The Sherman looks great when you cover it in all the gear the yanks carried on it, canvases, create,s kitchen sink etc) but the sound(s) are not correct whereas the Tiger would benefit from a more interesting paint scheme but has the right sound file.
Both run well in basic 'plastic' trim and have plenty of upgrades available. Don't rush to fit a metal gearbox as the nylon one is quiet and smooth running but you may want to invest in a gearbox that provides more realistic speed control, ie lower gearing, unfortunately the most expensive type! One last point, there is more space inside the Tiger. Either way, enjoy!

Hi Bill, just make sure when you're making your purchase the tank comes with the new controller I showed you in your introduction thread, otherwise you may end up with one of the older versions, I've seen many on sale where they state "latest" or "new" etc when they're not.
Mick.

Just to add from my experience. Once you start upgrading the tank inevitably gets heavier and then you soon realize that the HL lower hull cannot handle it. Eg. a torquey gearbox will want to fight its way off the plastic screw posts and you’ll end up with this setup:

And some other problems too.
The latest v5.3 remote looks like this:

Thanks one and all for your comments.
RobW, my partner was a little upset in the summer when she opened the caravan door and found not 1 but 4 large rc boats, not sure i want to see her angry face again over tanks.
General Jumbo01, its a shame that they cannot get the sounds right on the Sherman which was my first choice, you say the Tigers are spot on, thanks for sharing photos of yours.
Wardog, you say the Sherman sounds better, I might just jump in buy a tank and then invest in a better sound system latter on.
Son of a gun-ner, I have looked at loads on ebay and retailers sites, thanks for the photo of the right controller.
RenoirLV, yes a few years ago my pal had an rc car that he added metal upgrades to, this caused problems with a performance and run time due to extra weight. What can be done to combat chassis lower body braking?

Count how many handbags and pairs of shoes your wife has, if you don't exceed this number, what's the problem
The beauty of tanks, one doesn't need super light for speed trials

It's good to see that our advice has been taken at face value.....and maybe misled you! To clarify your summing up and in no particular order, RC car racing and RC tanks share one thing in common - the words Radio Control. Trust me, it ends there!
Sounds - the latest v5.3 HengLong radio system has two sounds, one for the Tiger 1. Both the Tiger and the Sherman are available with 5.3 systems. Both models sound as good as each other - you.just need to pop the top decks off and reposition the speakers so they can sit near a grill / vent.
Back plates - the Tiger back plate serves no structural purpose and upgrading the gears, sprockets, tracks will only affect the main hull and, if done correctly, not even so you'll experience problems. Just remember that the plastic moldings are plastic and self tapping screws can do a lot of damage to plastic if not used considerately. Always tighten gently and make sure holes are aligned and screws are vertical. IF you should break a Tiger back plate, Dave at Forgebear sells spare ones for about a tenner!
Both the Sherman and Tiger are popular models and latest Henglong ones are available for under a hundred pounds.
Regarding sound upgrades, you cannot upgrade the HL sounds without replacing the whole multi function unit in the hull which controls everything. You can replace the MFU with one which will support the HL functions or with one which supports open architectures but both routes are not cheap or simple.
My advice - just buy a basic one and see how things go. Either model will please!

Hi For a not unreasonable sum of money Dave at
http://www.forgebeartanks.com will sell you a metal Taigen Tiger 1 Metal Hull complete with torsion bar suspension, a decent metal gearbox, wheels, sprockets, and idlers as well as a fully detailed backplate and a quick release that works on a Heng Long Body.
That will solve the sagging Tank effect.
Every Heng Long Tiger 1 that I have has a Taigen Metal Hull.
