Hi, I am looking to make a WW1 tank out of aluminium at 1:6 scale. Can anyone point me to the location of any plans. I purchased the haynes book on the tanks but it was a total waste of money with next to know detail on the subject. So if any one can help. Thanks. Michael

Have you checked with Bovington? I've seen plans but not exactly sure where they came from. There's a thread on the Mk IV build on here somewhere too: think that was 1/6 too?

I have contacted the museum, know reply yet. I was hoping that someone had some plans

The detail is something else. If you type MK 1 Nut into the search window you should find a place to start your search, Certainly it has to be the best example of a MK1V on this Forum.

thanks for replies. The first thing I did was google for plans. there are lots of drawings but no real plans. thanks for the heads up on Halen, I have seen that model and very interesting it is too. At the moment I am trying to get a mate to blow up the plan inside the cover of the Haynes book, and plan a few visits to bovington as I don't live to far from there to match plan with real tank. wife happy as it keeps me out of the pub.

Bovington.... ahhhh, any excuse will do! Once you have selected your model and plan, it may help to have a 1/35 model (if you can find one) to use as a visual quick reference guide. I'm doing exactly that just now for a particular Russian Katyusha vehicle. I'm even considering using a 3D scanner and printer to produce some of the parts!

Hi general. 3d scanners are not very good at the cheap price bracket and miss out a lot of detail. I did make live steam locomotives until all the clubs red tape and little hitlers killed the hobby. I used a 3d printer to check fit of parts before I cnc machined them. Get a 3d pen to stick parts together. I plan on making the tank out of steel for the drive sections and alloy for the body. With a bit of brass for gun barrels etc. I think that Helens model uses a wooden frame, may go the same way with that idea.
