Sherman elevation unit problem

Evening everyone.
I have been working on my hi Sherman tonight. I have installed one of the metal split hatches from forebear. I have put everything back together but now the elevation unit only works in one direction, the tank has the latest heng long electrics so originally the elevation went both ways. Now the gun gets to maximum postition up And then won’t go back in the opposite direction.
Not sure what the problem was so took the elevation unit apart to find that the little motor that is inside works in one direction but when I move the stick on the controller the opposite way there is no movement of the motor.
Has anybody else come across this problem.
Thanks
Glyn

Good afternoon,
Make sure that that there was no switch for gun on\off in the old hatch. If there was, make sure that there is a switch in the new hatch and that the solder connections are good. Check for plug connections. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply painless but there was no electrical parts on the old hatch. The unit must be getting power because it goes in one direction so connections are good?

Percy!
If it is not the old Heng Long where it cycled through up and down endlessly and is an actual up and down on two connections then one has to be bad somewhere. Maybe a wire broke during turret disassembly\reassembly? You should get out ye trusty olde Multimeter and start checking wires for connections if nothing is obviously loose. Don't forget 'Murphy' ( and we are not talking Audie here ) and check the stick on the TX as well. Not unheard of for something totally unrelated to bin itself while you are working on something else.
regards,
Painless

hi if my memory is right the elevation unit has a slide sidebar on the bb unit that the peg fits in to and only will go one way round so it slides up and down the side of the bb unit it may be the wire is pluged wrong way round and only slides to the end and gets stuck

let me know if that helps

Morning Dave
Definitely not stuck because I have disassembled the unit and the motor is only going in one direction. It has to be a bad connection somewhere as Painless suggests. I will have a check later and see what I can in earth

Had a bit of a look at this this morning whilst "working from home" :O
I have connected the gun elevation unit to the turret rotation connection on the 8 pin plug on the underside of the hull and plugged the turret rotation unit into the gun elevation connections. Now I get the gun going up and down when I move the controller as if to rotate the turret but the turret only turns in one direction when I move the handset as if to raise or lower the gun. This means that the connection for the gun elevation on the 8 pin plug is where the fault is, I will have a look tonight to see if it can be repaired or its off to good old Forgbear for a new 8 pin plug if I cant fix it, I must have damged the plug whist taking the turret apart to install the split hatch.

has it got the new eight pin with the 3 pin on it as well if so try to turn the 3 pin wire round and plug it in see if that works

Maybe a stupid reaction: I had something similar with the 8 pins connector on the IBU3 board. Per mistake I had twisted the 8 pin connector....maybe you did the same....?? Hope it works...
