So I'll be moving soon; and I'll have to take my tanks with me.
Unfortunately, I can't move them without putting them in cases since I don't want to risk breaking them in transit - the boxes they came in are in tatters - because Amazon likes moving stuff of that size without the use of a cardboard box.

You guys have any options or suggestions for me?

I moved a couple of years back and took all of my tanks in the moving truck. Most fit back into their original boxes but there were a few super detailed versions that I shipped differently. Everything arrived 99% undisturbed ( then again, me and friends were doing the loading and unloading ) Good luck with whichever path you take with shipping.

I can think of a few approaches depending on the value of the tank, and how much you want to lay out.

1) Cardboard boxes. These can be bought, or potentially scrounged from local supermarkets. Not as easy as it used to be asx they recycle a lot of it now....but you can still find places that will give you boxes.

2) Pricier...but you can buy stackable plastic boxes, or lidded 'RUB' ( really useful box) for not too much money.

E-Bay search 'really useful box'. Get smaller ones for parts, batteries etc.
Imagine your tank sittting in there in a nest of bubble wrap. Should be quite secure. Plus the carrying handles and lock down lids all help.

Add in some bubble wrap or foam padding to the box, or place the tank in a rubbish bag, and pack scrunched up newspaper around it to keep it away from the sides. Newsprint has a habit of coming off....hence the bag covering.It alsdo ensures if any small detail parts do get broken off...you won't lose them.

First question is who will be doing the moving; you or a moving company?

If you then it is a simple matter of some proper packing in a sturdy box of some sort. You'll know what's in the boxes and how to handle them.

If the move is being accomplished by a moving company then the packing and boxing become much more important. The tank must be immobilize within the box using some fairly dense foam rubber or stiff Styrofoam cut to fit the tank with ample padding between it and the interior of the box.

If possible I highly recommend transporting them in your personal car or truck unless this is an overseas move.

Overseas, eventually. I'll be moving these in my car. But will need to get some movers to help with the rest of my stuff (I have a smol car).
