Question about wiring

Hi,
I specially made an account on this forum for this question:
I have made a smoke generator (using a graupner smoke generator and a small computer fan) and it works great. But, I would like to add an effect: when I get the final hit (using the "HL IR BS" and RX-18) I would like the "fan" to stop, but the smoke generator has to keep on going. That way it looks like the tank is on fire.
I was thinking that the solution could be to connect the fan with the driving motors, so that when they "stop working" (by getting hit a lot, 5 times I thought) the fan should stops too. the smoke generator should be connect straight to the batterypack.
Is there a better solution?
