Yes it was the same with a GAZ truck DIY kit that I bought. I raised it at the time and suggested buying the RTR version as at least the parts should all be there.

And strangely the assembled truck is cheaper than the Kit

Morning all,

Don't bank on the RTR trucks being correct or complete :S when the 4x4 first came out I received one which had two front axles fitted to it which meant the rear wheels were all over the place and the steering connecting rod was swinging loose but they still sent it out  :haha:

Cheers, Lee.

They are great little truck's for the price Mick and with a bit of imagination and work can also be made into many different variations as seen on the forum :D the vendor got it sorted for me straight away so no problems there  I think that one must have been made last thing on a Friday night when the quality control were waiting to clock off :haha:

Cheers, Lee.

I won't know for sure if it's all here until I put it together, and that might be a while. Right now the Hetzer has top priority, but the new job has really cut down on the hobby time.

I could have bought the RTR truck for about $10 more (I shopped around and at the time the kit was the lowest price) but I went with the kit for a couple different reasons. One was that I'm curious about the servo and if they've made any provisions for mounting or attachment in the kit (still haven't checked that out) and I could see in the photo that the middle axle has a metal ring gear and all the pinions are metal. I have yet to see it proven that the RTR truck has any metal gears in it. Not saying it doesn't but I was sure the kit would. Another reason is just to try putting it together from the ground up, instead of taking it apart and then putting it back together. There used to be a commercial that featured a weight lifter saying, in a Schwarzenegger type accent, "I lift things up and put them down". I was starting to feel like "I take things apart and put them together", so it was time for a change of pace.

Overall I'm well satisfied so far (as long as everything is here) with price and speed of delivery (a little less than 3 weeks, but shipping was free). I plan to do a build log, but like I said, it will be a bit before I get to it. After the Hetzer (and some of it along the way) there are a couple of WC series trucks to finish. In addition to the first WC51 I just printed a WC64 KD ambulance. Do I need to say I'll keep y'all posted? 8)

I have had a few kits and too many RTR's!
Personally i prefer the kit, because i rip them apart anyway. But the RTR is always cheaper, hence why i have more of these!

The kit builds if using the original gears, they don't mesh very well and require some fettling. But with the metal part upgrades this is no longer an issue. The plastic drive units are not soo great and slip quickly if you work the models hard.

I currently have 12 B1 trucks in boxes and using them as basis for lots of builds. I wish i had more B24 as i like the GAZ 66 truck look better. but they are commanding much higher prices still.

I do think i want to make another 6x6 or attempt an 8x8 though
