Track replacement

Will eventually be replacing the plastic track on my PZ III with a metal set and thought it be prudent to ask the correct procedure. See their connected with pins going thru the links but am curious as how their kept in position once installed ,are they a press/fiction fit , what keeps them from backing out when the tank is in motion.

One end of the pins are knurled. Just make sure that you're pressing them out the correct direction or you'll force the knurled part all the way through the link. It'll be a fight to get it out, and most likely you'll ruin the link.
Also be a great idea to put on a track tensioner. Makes it so much easier to get a good balance between track tension and realistic sag. I'm getting ready to start a Stug III, Ausf A build based on a HL Tauchpanzer III. It'll get the tensioner and metal treads.
Here's a link to a couple of Stugs I did a while back. Both have metal tracks and the tensioners installed.

I agree with Bill, all of my Panzer III variants run track tensioners. A very easy MOD and inexpensive too.

I would have a note book especially for tanks, wish I'd done it from the beginning, I'm struggling to remember which threads have which in them lol.
Have a folder on my iPhone... Notes in that a list, tank stuff!

Ragnar, I don't know if you've checked these guys out, or not. They're in the states and you'd be hard pressed to find better prices. Here's a link to the Pz III stuff...

I do have a note book around here somewhere. For all my tanks I made a list of parts and mods, then marked them off as I completed them.

Buy a set of P IV tracks , exact same thing , just a bit longer so you can use the extra links as applique armour.

A number of items on the PZ111 and PZ4 are interchangeable such as the Cupola, Radio Aerial, Notek Light, Tracks and Gearboxes.
