Hi there

As I said before I real like British tanks.
This also means im almost not allowed to build german tanks

Because ill probably be building more than one I just decided to make one topic for them all.

The first two will be a cromwell with the f type hull(for a customer) and the tank I like the most the A30 challenger

So lets start with the Challenger.

First some pictures of the real one.
This is to one ill be building.




















Lucky for me I live in Holland and we have the only remaining complete one









The early muzzle break ill be copping




They even allowed me to climb on top of it to make some pictures


Now lets start on the build.
I first made all the drawings for the hull in Inventor to see if it would work and be able to make more than one tank.
After that I started cutting the parts.



slowly building up the hull





First try on the turret


Reprinted the turret.


First gun assembly.


The track tensioners of the panther fit perfect between the two hull plates.


Printed the suspension arms and put some brass bushings in them to make them last longer.


Road wheels also have bearings.


Tensioner wheel also printed.


And a lot of fitting parts and stuff later.
This is how far she is don now.




The cromwell build is the same in a lot of ways but is always just a bit behind on the Challenger.

Made some normandie calls for both of them.



One of the 4 turrets I printed for her.




The final striped down turret im going to be juicing.

Great work Tim I too love the look of the cruisers, I'm currently building the Cromwell from ludwigs, can't wait to get it running shapeways do some really nice detail bits for these tanks which look great and saves a lot of fiddly scratch building

Have you don the suspension jet?


Well I have a little update for all of you.

The inner hull with the suspension mounted.


The outer hull will just go around it and will keep the suspension in place and also gives me easy axes for maintenances.


Getting this all working took a few hours but the result is there.

Hi Tim, I bought the metal suspension arm's from ludwigs along with the springs, I havnt fitted the springs in their final position yet as I want see how the tank sits first with all the electronics and bits inside

I took the design from the standard plastic once and 3d printed them and they work great.
I drill the hole for the mounting the spring 32mm from the bottom of the tank and directly above the axel.

Realising I'm a bit behind on the updates i thought lets give you some more pictures.

I stated by making the exhoust just look a bit more realistic.



And then to make sure you would not see it


Then i thought It might be handy for the crew if the were actually able to see something.
So I started work on the periscopes. with a tiny bit of modifications they look the part.





I just don't know why they put these on the tank. I know from experience that you really cant see a thing out of them and they are way to complicated.
Also the Russians copied the British design.


You might have notices that the tank is starting to look more and more steampunk because of all the brass I'm trying to juice.

Hope they still move when they are done


The rear of the tank started to look a bit empty so I dit a tiny bit of work on it.
