The missing Banjo lookalike
some filing/filling may be required to get the angled part right

Re: Chieftain Mk V scratch build
I would tread with caution. Even though I can design parts I always look on Thingiverse for inspiration, or simple downloading, when I need something. I bought a Traxxas TRX4 Landrover, and set about adding all of the missing detail to the Lexan body etc. After many wasted hours of printing I discovered that parts simply would not print, or if they did they quite simply would not fit, and if they did fit they were so weak that they were useless on an off road RC truck. In the end I ditched most of them, and designed my own anyway!having said that there are loads of stuff free to print on the web, so you can use the printer even if you cant do complicated parts ,

Re: Chieftain Mk V scratch build
Right so here's the cunning plan for the side-skirts
Here's the skirts, and I've started sticking 4mm square styrene tube onto the underside of the track covers at 4 strategic locations
This is where the skirt needs to fit
then I need to make prongs that stick to the skirt and slide into the 4mm tubes
just like that Haha (sorry Tommy Cooper impression creeping in)
Obviously you stick all the prongs in first before sticking on the side skirt and here is the result
Just like that!
(I said it was simple)

Re: Chieftain Mk V scratch build
Thanks Carl, and everyone else for the good words.
Here she is looking pretty in her new skirts.
Just need to get the barrel lock done and then it's down to painting, several more coats required plus I've ordered some XF-51 Dark Green for the camo.

Re: Chieftain Mk V scratch build
Now approaching the end of the scratch build (still electronics etc to go) I started adding up how much the build has cost, and gave myself a shock!
1 reel PLA filament £15
1/4 reel TPU filament £8
Styrene sheet £25
Nuts/bolts/screws £15
KV1 tracks £17
Recoil/elevate mechanism £25
Taigen Jagdpanther 3:1 gearboxes £23
1/35 Chieftain model kit £25
Paint (so far) £15
Brass rod £10
Wiring/cables £12
Turret ring £2
Barrel £14
Giving a frightening grand total of £206
and here was I thinking how cheap it is to scratch build, mind you there isn't any other way to get a Chieftain 1/16.
and on top of all this is the approx 300 to 350 hours of build/design/print
Scary huh?
