track tensioners

Hi
New member from Strathclyde , posted before but on wrong place , can't see a delete button.
Was out for a play in the snow with my tamiya tiger 11, the tracks slacken off. Running metal tracks, hentec tension unit and the reduction gears.
Changed the grub screws to hex bolts, did not want to round off allen key fitting but still slacked off.
Will grinding down allen key bolt tip into a cone or just dropping a small ballbearing in bite into the shaft on the idler adjustment work.
Any suggestions for a better idler tension unit?

I have zero experience with a Henntec adjuster, but a tiny flat formed onto the shaft in the spot that the grub screw lands will stop the problem immediately.

Hi, Ronnie
It looks as if you were giving your weighty King Tiger a severe workout in the snow; and that would explain the tension overload on the Henntec. If you have a Dremel with grinder attachments, or similar, HB's suggestion of putting a small flat on the shaft where the tip of the grub screw sits, would be the best solution. If the screw itself keeps working loose, then a drop of light threadlock might help. Then again, you don't want the screw to be immovable..so be careful

Hello ronnie42,
maybe i can help you. If you can, please take pictures of eccentrics and screws. If the components are not in good condition, I can send you new components.
When and where did you buy the chain tensioners?

with kind regards,Guido

All of the Grub screws that I have seen in both the original Tank and the associated parts as well as the upgrades have a rounded base which means only a very small area of the grub screw base is in contact with the shaft and that is not conducive to gripping the shaft that it is supposed to be locking,
You can find flat base Grub screws of various lengths for pennies that will do a far better job and if you do have a problem with grub screws holding the shaft I would recommend going for flat bottom grub screws.
Don't forget to paint a dab of Loktite on the thread to stop it from working free.
Shaun.

As a sensible Scot, I would take Guido up on his offer, if I were you, Ronnie

Hi

Thanks for all the help problem solved for now. Ground down a hex bolt to form a cone as the shaft was scored , set the tracks and made an impression and then countersunk with a drill.
Decided to upgrade , looked at Henntec and going to buy the new version .
Perhaps the tracks weighing 2.7 kilo was the problem , easier to adjust as its thro the track tension covers.
Tried to buy thro Henntec website but its bank transfer , you go right thro ordering then find its a bank transfer.

Hi Guido, IMHO your web is not very intuitive. You should put the paypal way of payment in a more obvious way.

Trust me when I say you are losing customers this way.

I spent weeks looking for your parts or other brands parts in other websites before I sent you an email asking for your paypal. Then I bought a tensioner from you.

I know some people that just wont write you an email due to problems with the language, or because they think you only take bank transfer as I thought too.
