WPL truck to Diamond T/M19 conversion

Heng Long/WPL are now manufacturing 1/16 scale RC trucks, so it seemed sensible to create a forum area dedicated to the amazing things that members are doing with them. Post your builds, mods, and tips here.

Well I tried the Diamond T with the trailer and a tank on the back and it went for about 2 feet and stopped. Then I realised that I had never charged the battery from new so it was probably flat. I put it on my charger and the charged capacity showed zero! So there's the problem. Now charging the battery and I'll try again. What should the charged capacity be for an 800mah battery?

At least it went 2 feet even with a flat battery and a tank on the back, so I am very encouraged, we'll see what it does with a fully charged battery.

No luck! I fully charged the battery and it will tow the trailer fine, but not with a tank on the back, just not enough power! :'( :'( So back to the drawing board and look for a plan B.

SUCCESS! I sat and pondered, and wondered whether the carpet was the problem, so downstairs to the lounge, and hey presto we have a working M19 and tank :D :D :haha:

Pity about the vacuum cleaner but never mind, the plan works!

Some work completed on the trailer. The loading ramps were a little tricky to design and print but I got there eventually. Lots of little details done like the wheel hubs and tie down fasteners.

Lots more detailing to do.

Shame my M15 trailer is proving elusive and expensive to make!

Given the advances in add-ons for the WPL trucks, I've decided to revisit this build and update it and finish it. I've ordered the following
I'm going to use the axles off this
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JJRC-Q60-1-1 ... 2749.l2649
and this motor and transfer gearbox
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Metal-Transf ... 2749.l2649
plus propshafts made from these
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/For-1-16-Mil ... 2749.l2649

Now I just have to wait for postie to deliver.....
