Re: TAIGEN PZ IV 4TH BATTLE OF KHARKOV 14 AUGUST 1943
Cheers Mr Mech, though not being a PzIV fan, this is turning out ok.
Today has been about getting the missing ingredient into this PzIV cake.
A MUD cake
Vallejo Russian Splash Mud 73.802 .
Literally smacked on with an old brush to see the stuff go wherever it wanted to !!
Its a nice contrast against the lighter camo and seems to match the subject picture at least for the roadwheels.
At some point I will get a horseshoe for the left guard., its not overlooked.

Hello Mr. Bix,
Hope you are doing well sir. Just went through your build as I've been away for a minute & it is very impressive. I must say you have a good eye for details. I really enjoyed your metal work that you completed and your added on detailing. Keep up the awesome work

Cheers for the kudos on the metalwork. I really wanted to do the turret skirt out of brass at the time but the then owner wanted Tamiya stuff(which he had) so I lost that. Then fast forward 6 years, I get hold of it. Who'd a thunk it
There are thousands of PzIV pictures to draw from, and settling on one is difficult.

Re: TAIGEN PZ IV 4TH BATTLE OF KHARKOV 14 AUGUST 1943
I had a thing today to do something with the cupola so when I get a TC in it, the thing is not just a “hole-of-adding “ for a figure !!
Fishing thru the left over bits I came across some Pz38t periscope glass that with a minor bit of involvement went into the cupola in the right spots.
Now I’m not talking Aber interior detail rather something that works near enough to look better than nothing.
Once a TC goes in, most of the internal concept will be lost, so no biggy to make shortcuts.
As long as it’s close enough!

The periscopes are a great addition, having that little extra detail just visible gives a hint there's more further in; it really helps sell the illusion that there's an interior.
I'll print some off when I change the resin out later this week.
I found some photos of Wehrmacht horseshoes, drew one up in about half an hour.HERMAN BIX wrote: ↑Sat Mar 30, 2024 10:19 amAt some point I will get a horseshoe for the left guard., its not overlooked.

Re: TAIGEN PZ IV 4TH BATTLE OF KHARKOV 14 AUGUST 1943
And there he is like the virtual Godmother!!
I went out to many dubious places over these last few days, none of which had anything close to a right sized horseshoe
I did find one that may have worked, but it was attached to a very expensive other bit which was not the point to destroy for one micro part of it.
I appreciate your checking in and helping out with the final ingredient mate
The one on the right seems to match the one on the guard by the looks

A little more on the cupola.
The head pads received a light dry brush of brown on the edges with black making up the rest.
I am going to go over the white with an off white but needed to get an undercoat on

Yyyyyyeeeuupp!
I couldn’t help myself!
A bit more mud, with a bit of grass, just to break up the texture and shades.
Once fully dry I can add pigment to soften the effects and blend it all in.
Shallow but long extents of muddy routes would show localised mess on the lower hull but not so much on the upper. Speed dependent of course.
Pretty happy with the way it looks.
Crew will be a must, as will some Grenadiers if possible.
