This is the only quality photo I have found for the charging handle/mechanism used on the M1A1, it is not used on the M1A2.
This photo is not on an M1 but appears to be the correct mechanism needed.



Hopefully someone has, has seen one or knows where to look. HELP!!!!!

Hi Dave,

I appreciate your effort but unfortunately the circled item in my photo is the charging mechanism. The M2 mounted on the M1A1 does not use the handle you've shown.

The M1A1 mount does not have clearance on the right or left side to allow the use of the "standard" charging handle. Looking at the photo I've posted one pulls on the "U" shaped handle attached by steel cable to cock and chamber a round.

C&Rsenal concentrates on military weapons while Forgotten Weapons is mostly military but also covers other obscure stuff. The bulk of the content of both channels is small arms/personal weapons but they also cover larger calibres, machine guns, anti-tank rifles etc when they can get their hands on them, & often go into great detail about variants such as adaptations for use in military vehicles. Between them, what they don't know about firearms isn't worth knowing.

M48 is the key to the search. I also found a youtube video showing the disassembly of an M48 which has several good views of the charging handle and it's operation.
Now to duplicate it in miniature.
