I've an opportunity to purchase one from local hobby shop for $520 US. It's the single motor version. My question is and I assume it maybe a silly one, can this be converted to full option with an Ibu2 or Clark or would it make more sense to buy the full option kit?

Hey Carl, the full option versions $200 plus post more (but comes with tamiya 4ch radio), I'd say by the time you've bought gears, electrics, elevation, recoil, etc etc I think you'll be looking way more than a full option one.

Tom's right, Carl. As tempting as the static model is, you're better off buying the full-option version when you compare what each offers- relative to your dollar outlay. I should know...i've spent months doing it
The full-option kit has all you need, but if you preferred a Clark (Stian special) or IBU2 heart, then you could always sell the Tamiya DMD/MFUs on. Currently.. they'd probably fetch between 250-350 dollars unused, so you'd still be appreciably better off.
I saw the static kits for the Abrams and JagdPanzer IV/70 Lang, and was sorely tempted, until I began a wee bit of arithmetic...
My current Pz IV build is just an experiment to see whether all the parts can be sourced individually, and assembled in instalments, without the initial shock of the Kit's ever-increasing price tag. It's sheer financial folly, probably, but I've enjoyed the detective work, and the enforced learning curve..
BUT..it really is a fun model to build

The only time that I would recommend buying the large scale Tamiya 'static' kit is if you are interested in a full scale build of it with non Tamiya electronics and added details ( like Mikes Tiger ) Even then , you will want to consider buying either the Tamiya motors for the turret functions or a grand Servo recoil kit like Clarks to get full functionality out of it. Having heavy duty gear boxes, lights, dual MGs and other goodies like convoy lighting makes the full build worth while over the stock Full Option Tamiya and the costs work out ( usually ) about the same. Check and see exactly what comes with the Static kits lately. Mikes had a plethora of parts that worked right on into the full build. Some of the new ones, not so much. That is why I haven't bought the Tamiya 'static' Jadgpanther kit.
