Just today I received Alwyn's impressive Nashorn kit, but I'm planning on something a little bit different.

I wanted a metal lower hull, but didn't fancy my chances butchering Taigen's cast pot metal PzKpfw IV lower and Asiatam's aluminium lower famously has enough problems of its own. However, I noticed that Chris Ludwig does a Nashorn kit, and he kindly made a lower hull out of 3mm aluminium for me:

My plan is for an early production Nashorn (technically a Hornisse at that point in time); so that'll entail PzKpfw III Ausf E sprockets, front-mounted spare roadwheels, rear-mounted exhaust muffler, twin headlights and a Hummel-style barrel clamp. It will be one of the vehicles from the Schwere Panzerjägerabteilungen on the Eastern Front in mid-1943; I'm unsure on specifics yet but I'd like a two-tone dunkelgelb and olivgrürn camouflage pattern.

I'm good to go mate..........chair, remote, booze..........bring it.

How does the alloy hull get held together?
That is going to be a mighty fine model

Interesting. I will keep an eye on this one. Hope the combination of lower and upper hull from different kits will work well.

If you go metal and use mixed vendors, I noticed a Nashorn 88 metal gun barrel at MK Modellbau that would look good on it.

This simply cannot be less that amazing, Dan. You've obviously given the whole package a great deal of thought, and know well in advance the end product you wish to create...or recreate, so to speak. I must say, it never occurred to me to request the basic Cromwell package in alloy... In fact, It didn't seem to be an option at the time, nor is it listed as one.
Too late now though, but it would have given the model real gravitas (in more than one sense ) Anyway, that was a very enterprising request on your part...and breaks new ground here I think, if you discount the alloy
Panther kit he offers. Looking forward to some neatly executed engineering feats here, and problem solving examples too when needed... An Alwyn/Ludwig hybrid ought to fill that T.O.T.M spot easily.

Now that's thinking outside the square! Do you have plenty of reference material for this version? I'd love to know the thought process,that went into your decision making. You must have been planning for a while?

Chris is very amenable, he will make you an aluminium chassis for most of his kits.

The Hornet will be a nice model, what's the differences in the Hornet and Rhino?
