I've always used Halfords (UK based auto parts store) grey primer in a rattle can. I use it on plastic, metal and resin and have never had any problems. Any similar stores in your location should stock similar, just look for grey auto primer in an aerosol.

It is cellulose based and could affect plastic but a couple of light coats on my tanks and I've always got good results.

Please note that Halfords sell two different grey primers. One is "Grey Primer", the other is "Grey Plastic Primer." It says on the can that the latter is specially formulated for use on glass fibre and rigid plastic. I don't have any ordinary grey primer at present, but the white and red ones are both acrylic. I'm fairly certain that the grey that I have used in the past was also acrylic. I have certainly never had any problem with them on plastic. The use of cellulose paint is highly restricted these days. (Basically, it was banned some 10 years ago, though there is an exemption for vintage and historic cars.)

As above, I thought mine was cellulose based but it is actually acrylic.

I use the normal primer not the plastic specific one.

Sorry for any confusion, next time I'll check my facts before posting!

ED, Hi, The German Armed Forces between 1937 and 1945 used "Red Oxide Primer" under the top coat and "Red Oxide Primer" is readily available in Acrylic at most Auto accessory stores.
It is usually in 500 Ml rattle cans and very cheap.
