Apart from actualy setting fire to the thing, what would be the easyest and cheapest way of adding a smoke unit to the T-34( still all original WSN gear)?

Hi, the simplest and easiest way is to simply wire up the smoke unit to the on/off switch! All it requires is ~6-8volts. This is assuming you are using a non-proportional smoker. The WSN electronics don't have multiple speeds, so a proportional smoker wouldn't make sense anyway.
If you want to go the whole hog and make it on- and off-able then add another switch in series so you can choose to use it or not - as you will soon get to hate the smell of the smoke!

PS Oh, the WSN uses 9.6v AA's but the extra load will probably pull the battery voltage down a bit. If it seems to be smoking a bit too much, add in one or two series diodes to drop the voltage by ~0.6v per diode. 1N4004 diodes will probably do it.
