Re: HL Truck Mods
I was probably 4 or 5 years old and I was in the garden with my mum when this big silver aircraft flew overhead,
No propellers just an eerie whistling,
At the time we lived just a couple of miles from Hatfield, It was the prototype Comet on its first flight out of De Havilland's.

I think I am about to upset someone

Re: HL Truck Mods
I’m pretty sure I have a letter at work (RR) from the head of the Air Ministry saying that our first jet engines had engaged the enemy, dated 1943

Re: HL Truck Mods
Wayne I am quoting from William Green's "Fighters" Volume 2,
The Meteor was the first jet aircraft to enter squadron service with the RAF and the ONLY Allied jet aircraft to see operational service during WW2.
DG202/G with 2 Rover B.23s rated at 1526 ibs static thrust made the Meteors first flight on JULY 24 1943,
Number 616 Squadron RAF received its first Meteor 1s (EE213 and EE214) on JULY 21 1944,
They were non flying examples that were used for training purposes,
5 fully effective Meteor 1s fitted with Rolls Royce W.2B/23 Welland 1s each rated at 1,700 ilbs Static Thrust were delivered to 616 Squadron 2 days later,
On AUGUST 4 1944 Meteor 1 (EE216) scored the FIRST confirmed victory by a British Jet Fighter when after its guns jammed it destroyed a V1 Missile by tipping it over with its wingtip causing it to crash.
So not 1943 but 1944 but they were RR engines
