Decided to have a play with a new WPL creation i am putting together
Belt drive with interchangeable pulleys for different ratios
Mule test vehicle is a simple build WPL C14 chassis with D12 body

Belt Drive test video, had to rebuild the axles after initial tests, stripped the gears haha
Still could do with some perfecting, but very happy with the test drive

I am not so familiar with RC trucks and cars, but the belt drive seems to me to a a promising way to change speeds readily and increase torque. I would imagine a genuine WWII Deuce-and-a-half with belt drive would be a natural along with the "1/4 ton 4X4." Both vehicles were common on all fronts.

For the Diamond T981 we have made, we have used a dual 370 inline motor unit with transfer case, but runs gears instead of belt. It would be the sort of thing i could use in a deuce, but you are correct the single motor geared down belt drive would work very nicely in a deuce
