Good morning all, is a li-ion battery to be dealt with in the same way as a lipo, they seem less common
than a lipo but I have found some of a compact size and of a decent mah which look a good choice, do they
need charging in a bag or in any special way for safety.

For what it's worth, I have used LI-ion batteries in my DSLR camera for years without any problems whatsoever. Only one of my tanks has a Li-ion battery (Heng Long T90). So far as I know, they are much more tale than LiPos. Just make sure you charge using the correct connector. Mine has two - one standard Tamiya for connecting it to the tank and one smaller one for the charger connection. Have a read of this http://www.androidauthority.com/lithium ... nce-27608/

Good morning, my HL Sherman came with a li-ion, that battery has the 2 connections but only two wires per
connector, the HL charger for it has the small connector and a red/green light, the li-ion batteries I am looking
at have 3 wires and need to be charged with a balance charger.

My camera batteries have three contacts on the battery, the camera and the dedicated charger.. No idea how you would wire a three wire battery up for a tank.

Hi, the battery is from an ebay uk seller, the dimensions are 75mm wide 70mm high 19mm deep and it cost
£16.49, worth a go I thought.

I am sure that many of us are familiar with the drawbacks of "NI-MH" and "NI-CAD" Batteries, Safe but a pain with the memory problems of them when it comes to re-charging ,
What is not known to many is that "LI-ONs" have a similar problem although it is much less of one, never the less a "LI-ON" will present similar shortcomings of the "NI-MH" and NI-CD" it is just that it will be over a longer time frame ,
"LI-POs" are banned from Air freight in bulk because of a an Aircrash in the Florida Everglades caused by the crated "LI-PO"s being mishandled either in the airside warehouse or while being loaded onto the Boeing 727 allowing the Batteries to fail and then ignite the wooden packing case holding them,
In flight the wooden box by now on fire and with no heat detectors being fitted in the hold burnt through the flight control cables with the total loss of the Aircraft and crew.
"LI-ON"s are not banned so that Heng Long etc can transport their products worldwide free of restriction which is a plus for Heng Long but that does mean a return to the long term loss of effiency of recharged battery's which is why I shall continue to use "LI-PO"s.

The main thing for me with this battery is the compact size, shouldn't be a problem to find a suitable space
when re jigging the innards.
