I've read quite a bit about the versions of henglong tanks

So far I've seen standard plastic and a part metal Pro but yet to see a ultimate version with metal suspension arms and road wheels, but I've seen a pro version with metal suspension arms and road wheels

A lot of us will buy the cheapest Heng Long Tank and then upgrade with a Taigen Metal Hull and an aftermarket control board and paint and weather to our own choice,
The thing is all I want is a reasonably accurate Silhouette which I can develop,
I will be stripping everything off of the Tank so there is no point in spending money on a quality paint job if I am going to change it later.
If you want an all singing all dancing Tank ready to run straight out of the box with metal and a nice paint scheme then I would go for Taigen/Torro But of course the pinnacle is still Tamiya.
Heng Long are a Brilliant introduction to the Hobby and easily the best platform to begin upgrading and they are affordable.

Hi, some of these high spec heng longs are very expensive, there is a uk supplier selling them and for what they
cost you may as well buy a taigen or torro, you can spend all you want on a heng long but you are still left with
a plastic lower hull which will need some renforcement if you want all metal parts.

I'm beginning to understand that some UK dealers add parts and accessories to beef up the standard tank, I also own a Torro tiger 1 I have upgraded with internals + repainted + it was my best guess before i found this forum and my thought pattern was along Mr Ludwigs post.

Thank you Jarndice you have cleared up a few things running round my head, I was thinking of scratch building one, like with my boats i start with a hull, so |i will start with a chassis then move on from there, although I suspect the freedom of choice for the final design is very much determined by the chassis purchased.
