Well I have a Delta printer, but this week discovered that three of the plastic brackets that are crucial to how it works have split, so that is out of commission until I either fix it ($10), salvage the parts and build a new printer from scratch (appealing), or sell it.

The other one a Smartrap I have had for 3 years, does an amazing job, but is looking a bit like Frankensteins offspring. I would prefer to keep this one as it never fails, and printing parts for it is a doddle.
But...times have moved on, and designs have improved, along with my CAD skills, so looking around on Chinese sites I spotted a sale on the venerable Creality CR-10, which is getting 5 stars everywhere. I bit the bullet and ordered one Less than £320 free delivery, and super easy to assemble, with a huge print bed. Can't wait!



Once I have that I can use it to accurately print the parts for the other two, or a complete new reprap printer.

For no other reason than to see what the CR-10 is capable of, I downloaded a complex figure from Thingiverse and printed it. I had previously tried this on two other printers but the quality just wasn't there, although this time I am using Cura 2.7 which does a superb job with support structures etc. This took five and a half hours, with the printer running nowhere near full speed, to get the quality as good as possible. It is truly an exceptional printer, can't fault it.

There is a missed band around the headscarf, this wasn't the printer, it is tightly wound filament on the spool, I went to bed and never saw the hiccup.

If only there were 1/16 WW2 figures on there to download??

Can't understand why no one is making resin figures for a reasonable price either?

Im thinking of getting a CR10S5. What do you think of them out of the box no mods.

The S version simply has two threaded Z rods so that the horizontal bar holding the hotend is driven from both sides. It's known to go out of synch with each other, which causes issues, and adjustments. I went for the single side one knowing that I could upgrade it if I needed to. In all honesty unless you intend printing gigantic rockets and vases, you would never need the add on. The quality is top notch without it.

The CR-10 is pretty much the 'go to' printer now, as it is pre-assembled, pre-configured, and a doddle to set up and use. This is a far cry from the early reprap days when you would have to build the printer yourself, configure the software, constantly adjust the printer etc.

You will always see people on the web whining about something or other, and nine times out of ten it isn't the printer it is something that they have done.

The CR-10 has a rock solid build, and is designed properly. There is nothing else to buy. It even comes with tools, spares, filament, a usb stick, sd card etc. I use PLA, so have never plugged the heated bed in, it prints as it should do.
