ex arty guy just getting started

Hi Folks and apologies for not following protocol and doing an introduction.

Have just got into RC tanks after modelling 1/35 for a while and then thinking I could buy something that moves around and shoots as well.

Spent most of my life as a Hydrographic surveyor out on the west coast and spent some time with 5 Field here in Victoria as a reserve artillery officer.

Looking forward to some help with my first purchase a Heng Long King Tiger which has been very problematic. After replacing damaged turret and stripped gear box I thought I had it working when a sharp acrid burning smell came from somewhere inside the tank and now the motors do not respond to the transmitter. Everything else works fine.

Is it possible something has burned out in the receiver and needs to be replaced?

Thanks for your help!

Welcome to the forum, 55. From the Victoria location, I'm guessing Australia? You'll be able to get loads of help and useful info here.

Might I suggest you start a thread with your tank problems in either the electronics section, under HL, or in the general questions section? This will make it easier for the members to locate the thread.

If I had to guess just off the top of my head, I would say you've smoked the RX-18. If that's the case, I'm sure someone will be able to steer you in the right direction for a replacement close to home.

Again, welcome to the forum!

Bill

Yup.

In Oz, Ozarmour and Tank Army have plenty of RX18s at good prices.

Welcome to the forum, plenty of good advice here.

Thanks for the help. Victoria BC Canada. But I would love to visit Australia some day. My wife loved the year she spent there.

Hi thereImage Check the for sale section of the forum there maybe some complete sets for sale or trade there. There are some great members from Canada in the forum. Have fun checking around.

Oh, Canada! (pun intended!) You're a lot closer than I thought. You might consider putting a location in your profile. It'll make it easier for the other members to steer you in the right direction for parts and suppliers. Most on the board will be more than happy to help separate you from your hard earned cash! :haha:

Being one of my northern neighbors makes you pretty close to IMEX in Florida. At least closer than overseas! They're a great source for parts, reasonably priced, and ship fast.

Welcome 55, from 43 :D Yes, I'd agree that it's probably better to create a separate problem-solving thread for your Tiger. I'd also second Bill's recommendation of putting a basic country location by your screen avatar. In Canada you have access to matomart http://www.matomart.com/product.php?c=1000007, and other outlets. You might be better served, in fact, than our Aussie cousins...
The alarming acrid smell probably signals the death throes of your RX18 multi function unit, but nil desperandum. It's fate was probably sealed the moment you joined this upgrade crazy forum.. :D
