I was asked if I would/could make a aerial for field operations and also another little portable generator/compressor (already made one for my munitions/spares tank.

So I had a go. Looked at pictures and finally came to a German telescopic aerial. My version is a more heavy duty type.

So, here are the pics, all made from old bits and scraps.

I have a memory of climbing up a steel ladder bolted to the inside of a vertical Aircraft Hanger wall with a telescopic Radio aerial in a reinforced canvas tube and a large canvas bag over my shoulders to the ceiling skylight,
This was at RAF Gatow in West Berlin in the dark days of the cold war,
I climbed out onto the roof and found a place to attach the guide lines to the roof and the aerial.
I assembled and then fitted the 12 foot whip aerial into the socket in the top section then I unlocked the separate sections and pulled the aerial up to its maximum 27 foot hight plus the whip aerials 12 feet.
After it was up and I had connected the Co-Ax cable and lowered it to the hanger floor I started to fill the bag with all the bits and pieces and that is when I kicked a Wasp nest hanging under the skylight frame. :wtf:
You can run all you like there is no obvious escape from the roof of an aircraft hanger except by the ladder I used to get there, so that's how I got off the roof,
Did you know that after a while you no longer feel the stings. :(
Shaun.
