I think I am right when I say that the RAF never had a "Spitfire Two Seat Trainer" (Officially) while the single seat version was in front line service,
Indeed I think the largest user of the type was the "Irish Air Corps".
There have been a number of both official and private conversions from single seat to dual.
Shaun.

Correct. I believe some 30 aircraft were converted post war. This particular aircraft has 2 kills to its credit. It was shot down in July 44 by a Fw190. The remains ended up in a French museum, mixed up with another Spitfire. It was acquired in 2011 and was restored to flying condition as a T9, at Duxford.

Envious, deeply envious. Just the sound of Spitfires flying over my house is music to my ears.

That's the one thing that was missing. What with the windows and the 2 piston engines of the De Havilland Dove, we could not hear it. However, when we were buzzed you really got the feeling of what it must have been like to be on the receiving end.
