Too tight/Too loose

I have the above problem with my Bulldog since fitting metal tracks. As they're fitted now, the tracks are too loose and the drive sprockets slip in the tracks when turning on grass. But if I take a link out they're too tight, and I can only just manage to hold it tight enough to get the pin in.

I've recently bought a track tensioner for my sons Tiger (there'll be a thread soon asking how to fit that...) But I don't seem to be able to find anything for a Bulldog. Any ideas?

Hi Push the tank down while you fit the metal tracks , then you just have to run them they will get loose in time. Not sure if there is any track adjusters on the market for the Bulldog, maybe someone else will know.

Thanks, I tried that, but not enough hands, maybe I'll see if my wife will help while I try and put the pin through.

Thats the issue, as it is now, I can't turn very well as the slack builds up at the back and then the sprocket slips within the tracks, but if I take out one link, it then seems too tight. I can hold the links together and slide the pin in, but if I'm to push down on the tank as well to compress the suspension, I won't be able to hold the links and insert the pin at the same time.

Can't afford the tensioner linked above at the moment. I might see if I can get my mate to run up something similar on his lathe.

Lol It didn't enter my mind until I was typing, I was about to put that I'd buy a cheap tiger tensioner, and see if I could mod it to fit, thinking, 'Paul would help me' followed quickly by 'hang on, he's got a lathe, he could probably just make the whole thing...'

Why not just take off the Sprocket and feed the assembled track around the rear roller and around the wheels, then wrap the track around the sprocket making sure all the teeth in the sprocket are engaged with the track and slide it back onto the shaft.

I assume you mean after taking a link out? That is an idea I hadn't thought of, but the metal sprocket is a ridiculously tight fit on the gearbox shaft, I had to use a dremel to open it up a bit to fit it the 1st time and it was still really hard, not too sure I'd manage to get it on with the tracks being tight.

:D I think it's my useless skills, buying parts from different manufacturers that should probably never go together, stupidly paid well over the odds for the gearboxes, from some German trader on eBay, because I forgot there were traders on here, and my part finding skills are well below par so couldn't see any alternatives, and the shafts on the gearboxes are slightly bigger than the standard Heng Long fitments. Managed to get the standard plastic sprockets on, with a struggle, but when it came to the metal replacements from Mato, I had to try and open out the hole a bit to stand any chance of getting them on without breaking the hull...

Lesson now learned, 1st port of call is ForgeBear, though sadly they don't stock much for the Bulldog. Slowly building up a bookmarks folder of traders recommended on here though. And deleting some I had after seeing them in the 'Blacklist'.

I'm quickly deciding I'd like to build a sturdier Bulldog with metal hull etc but nowhere seems to offer the same parts range as you can get for the German tanks. My finger has been hovering over various parts to start building a metal Stug from ForgeBear for about an hour now, but my wife would be, err, less than pleased.
