Hello everyone, new member here and new to RC tanks. I have been into RC for over 20 years and picked up the hobby from my father when I was pretty young. I raced a lot when I was younger, but the majority of my interest for the past few years has been scale 4x4 trucks and large scale monster trucks. My father has recently picked up the hobby again, dusting off his Tamiya King Tiger from the mid eighties. The detail work he's done on that tank is incredible and it's just a work of art. He has since purchased quite a few Taigen/HL tanks and after running a few of them with him I figured I'd give the tank scene a shot.
All of his tanks are WWII (Tigers/Shermans, etc) so I figured I'd get something different and went with the HL Abrams M1A2. Just received it today and its a really nice piece for the price. Of course I can't leave anything alone so I'll be sifting through the forum and asking some questions myself on my quest to upgrade the M1 to my satisfaction.
Just wanted to say hello and I look forward to joining the community, it looks like people are very helpful and knowledgeable and I look forward to being a member.

Time to ask your card company to increase your credit limit, I think

Welcome, and no doubt you'll be following in the beaten tracks of those who have gone before, spending, mending and amending
Do send us pics of your Abrams when it arrives, and also include your Dad's handiwork, if that's ok

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome, I really appreciate it! I should be over my father's tomorrow as Sunday is our weekly RC day, I'll be sure to get some pictures of his Tiger. I'm sure there are nicer ones on here, but I always thought his looked great.
As far as being a money pit, you guys aren't kidding. I've been in RC for years and don't even want to know what I have into my collection. Building custom trucks gets out of hand sometimes, and its looking like tanks are no different. I already have big plans to upgrade the Abrams and already planning on a Tamiya as my next tank, the detail is just amazing with Tamiya.
I do have many questions already and I'l try to post them in the proper sections of the forum. I did want to ask about TankArmy.com as I plan on buying a lot of upgrades from them. Has anyone in the US used them and had any issues? With the conversion rate parts are really inexpensive (even with shipping), so just want to make sure there isn't anything I'm missing.

Great to have you along Mr 871
As for Tankarmy, they are a national supplier for me, (not really local as such) but many here have had no problems purchasing from them at all.
In fact if I can be so bold as to say they tend to look after off-shore purchasers better than us locals !!
You must be feeling the pressure to put up pics of your ole-mans historic King Tiger & wondering why !
Its simply due to the heritage and rarity of that particular model these days...........a bit like having access to a classic Mustang & everyone overlooking your new Camaro to see pics of it !!

Thanks for the info on Tankarmy Herman, it looks like they'll be getting a lot of business from me. I actually can't believe how reasonable it will be to buy parts from them, seemed to good to be true. I've been running the Abrams stock for now and just love it. Of course it needs some upgrades and I was planning on running it as is for a bit and deciding what I really wanted to upgrade. Don't know who I'm kidding, it's going to get every upgrade I can get my hands on. Seems like I just cant help myself.
Unfortunately no pictures of the Tiger just yet. Since he can never leave well enough alone, he has the tank completely apart in order to upgrade to a modern drivetrain/electronics. I'll be sure to get some good photos when she's back together...
