Hi all. I have seen a lot of people makes custom tank or pieces with something called plasticard and evergreen. I have searched for them on internet and I have seen that are just comercial names and that are just styrene sheets that can be found way way cheaper unbranded.

So the question is, can you recomend me where to buy some? I've looked on ebay and sometimes is quite confusing. Sometimes they say its styrene made of ABS and plenty of things more... Well, I know I can glue the styrene with normal hobby glue, but the ABS its completelly different stuff. So I dont know if there are diferent kinds of styrene or bad translations. I have also seen that there are some matt and some that have a more shining aspect. Of course im looking for the matt ones.

So, where can I buy some of this white material, and being able to solder it with hobby glue, as cheap as possible?

Do a search for HIPS sheets and you should find something usefull

ABS is good, but you need something stronger to glue it, like gutter glue. Something acetone based more or less. HIPS is easier to work with in this hobby. A full size Stormtrooper suit would be made of ABS or PVC

Polystyrene or Styrene for short. Made by a number of plastic extruders.

I use mostly Evergreen because their quality control is good and it is readily available here is the US.

If you're just needing some thin stuff like for light plate and such, I use the plastic FOR SALE signs from the local discount store. Some of them are plastic, and others are metal. The different sizes are different thicknesses. Pretty cheap, and no shipping, to boot!

I get all of mine from Station Road baseboards, as shown in the link above. It's styrene sheet that you need, it comes in various thicknesses, though I have found 2.5mm is the max that I can go to that will cut cleanly.

The way to cut it is to score it with a styrene cutter, and then snap it. They aren't widely advertised but a decent hobby shop should have them.

I found a plastics company in the states called Reynolds and they have a location in Denver. I bought a 4 by 8 foot sheet of .080 for $40 USD. Then found a friend at a print/sign shop who told me they throw out left over Polystyrene. He gathered up and gave me roughly 40 pounds of .040 and .060 1 by 2 foot sheets. Needless to say, I've stopped buying plastic sheets at the hobby store.

Unicorn blood sheets are very hard to come by and are very expensive. Also, you need elven crystals to cut them and goblin earwax to bond them together again

As a base, every modeller who wants to do something more than kits should have some 0.2, 0.4 and 0.8 plasticard sheets, and some 3/64 size rods. Also needed are 1mm, 1.2mm and 1.5mm brass rods. I think the rest should be bought as per a specific need. It can get expensive fast if you want a bit a everything readily available just in case.
