Great conversion though. Mann, oh Mann, sieht das gut aus.. I've been looking and dawdling around buying the T-55, but in the end decided that the considerably cheaper T-90 had to do. But, then again, I'm a bit of an iconoclast afa scale-correct builds go...

I have the deepest respect for those that take the time to measure the distances between rivets and such, but it makes my brain itch. Added to that, once built, I'd be far too afraid to run it, scared that those carefully crafted minute details snap-off and such.

I run this Tiran even in rough terrain since more than 2 years and not one part did snap-off until now. All my models are built to ride them in outdoor, not only for display.
My view what vehicle to start as a model-project is different : I made the decision to build a Tiran 5; and so I was forced to buy the T55 from the Hooben.
I have also plans to make a special conversion (Russian vehicle) based on T72 or T90. May be in 1 or 2 years.

Will You, eventually, make Your designs available through Shapeways?

In that case, I might bite the bullet and get a Hooben T-55 to convert. Shapeways is often not cheap, but parts for my RC cars I bought there from several designers were always top-notch.

Shapeways is like a community where you can buy 3D-printed parts. All my 3D-parts ar printed by shapeways and if I publish my parts, everybody can order them directly at Shapeways

Take a look at Shapeways.com, type "1/16" or Heng Long in the search box and be amazed at what's already available, designed by enthusiasts. It's really impressive. I, personally, already built a 1/10 scale sandrail-buggy from a design by "Toykid". Expensive, @ €245.-for just the custom parts, but totally worth it!

For You, modern-military-interested types, Toykid also offers a complete super-scale custom kit for the 1/10 Tamiya Fast Attack Vehicle, as used by the American Special Forces in Iraq.

So, If the Tiran5 kit is ready, You can be sure the quality is impeccable. Recently Shapeways upped the ante afa detailing & strength of the printing materials used. It's strong enough for 30+ mph 1/10 buggies.

the can holder are made bei ABER, I got them from Schumo Kits. As you can see, the are photo-etched and easy to bend (I have a small bending tool)

I have done a lot of research about NATO vehicles. But I have never seen this special water cans and can holders at other vehicles than IDF.

yes, the Tiran is to be continued ....

Before starting the turret assembly, I had to prepare the turret hull. Some holes must be filled with putty.



The first turret box is finished. As you can see, it's made of different materials. Now I am waiting for some 3D-print-parts so that I can continue to assemble the turret accessories.
