Potential Disaster

After much cursing, sweating, dremmeling and more cursing I eventually got my metal tracks, sprockets and idlers fitted to the Jagdpanther. As you do I decided to give it a good thrash around the garden.

After a couple of minutes the tank went dead, then, big drama smoke is billowing out the tank. I switched it off but the skoke and burning smell is getting worse. Mad flap now to locate a screw driver and eventually rip the battery out which by now is red hot and the plastic outer case is split and smoldering. On opening her up all the power leads have burnt and melted/arced together.

The cause - The on/off switch, the RX18 box, held on by factory sticky buds had slipped down, pushing the red and black leads together at the top of the on/off switch.

This has been solved by inserting a small peice of pastic between the red and black terminals at the on/off switch, now they can't touch.

I can't believe something this simple nearly destroyed the tank.

I love the smell of burning tank in the garden ;D ;D I think most of us have fried something at sometime and started ripping the tank apart in fear it will turn into a puddle of melted plastic on the floor, sounds like a simple solution you have found for your problem tho, so hopefully it wont happen again ;)
