Afternoon all,

Just a quick question, I know a few of you fella's on the forum 3D print, would it be possible or cost effective to make the slipper gear on the tamiya elevation units Seeing as this is one of the more common parts to go on the unit I'm sure it would be of interest to people, I myself have two units that could do with this gear in either the original form, ie with a slipper gear or as a solid one piece gear, so just throwing it out there , what do you guys think,

it seems like the design is where the flaw is. Replacing the slip gear means that it will just wear out again unfortunately. Using the servo solution would be the better way to go, or fit two microswitches to limit the travel.

On the subject of 3D printing, on Netflix there is an original programme called 'printing the legend ' very interesting insight into a couple of US companies designing the printers and software

3D printers (at least the home versions) don't print well enough to make a successful gear in that application. I can make gears, but the teeth need to be much larger and there's a lot of cleanup, even at 50 microns.

Fortunately, Tamiya uses a lot of gear across platforms, so that solid (or replacement slipper) is readily available.

But realistically, the easiest thing to do is pull the gear, fill the slipper with putty and install limiting microswitches as Mr. WIbblywobbly recommended, so you'll never need to address it again.

Thanks for the reply wibbly the design isn't very good as you pointed out, if they could be made relatively cheaply though changing them when worn out wouldn't be a big deal, I very rarely use the elevation on my tanks to any great extent and try and keep the movements to a minimum to stop the wearing of the slipper gear, a few spare one's would be very handy though
