Hello All!

Hello:
I am just starting out in the hobby with my son. I am 53 and he is 12: there is a huge learning curve, lol. I have no clue what I am doing and have been luck enough to make friends with some members on this forum and RCU. They are walking me through the process and helping me learn as I go.
We live in central Pennsylvania and have very few options as far as suppliers or stores that carry 1/16 tanks. I am disappointed that there aren't more vendors in the US: from what I see shipping from the UK and Europe really jacks up the prices on parts.
We participated in an IR battle weekend at the AAF Museum in Danville, Va a month ago. It was almost a 7 hour drive for us but we are definitely hooked!
We are also scratch building a 1/6 Jagdtiger to participate in paintball battles. A neighbor belongs to a group that battles once or twice a year in Gettysburg and he has been a great help. It is totally different than the 1/16 tanks but is still a lot of fun.
My son has a Tiagen Tiger 1 (late war) with an airsoft unit that I bought him for his birthday, he loves it. Unfortunately the airsoft unit is terrible and not working already.
I bought a used Tiagen Tiger 1 (early war) from a fellow on RCU and got to run it in some IR battles. It needs a better board, the IR transmitter bulb adjusted, a new traverse unit (gear stripped in first battle) and a better transmitter. It is a solid metal beast and a lot of fun. That will become my sons IR tank.
Last night I just purchased a Tiagen PzIV from a forum member and I am looking forward to doing some work on it. It is coming with a lot of upgraded metal parts that need installed and it will also need a new board for IR battles and a transmitter. I am hoping to find some good reference pictures to do a DAK vehicle.
I want to build a Tamiya kit with my son over winter but I haven't found a kit that has enough "wow" factor to get me to spend the money on it yet. Maybe if I start understanding a little more about the inner workings of these vehicles I will feel comfortable to buy another kit and try to convert it.
See ya,

Nice to hear that you are having fun with your 12 year old! I too love in the states ( Connecticut) My children enjoy watching me work on and build my custom tanks although they are a bit younger.( My wife not so much
)You will be pleasantly surprised that some vendors on the other side of the pond have very reasonable and fast shipping to the States!
