Charging time, basically divide the rating of the battery by the rating of the charger. 3000/500= 6 hours. Not sure about the run time, but i would guess about 50 minutes, all other things being equal.

The answer depends on how drained the battery is. Fully charged it is 8.4v. The voltage cut off on most boards is 6v. So you are putting 2.4v back into the battery.
Most quality batteries are designed to drop rapidly to around 7.5v and then maintain that for a long period of time, then drop off rapidly.

500 milliamps is a trickle charge. The reason for this is that if you had a 4amp charger charging a battery with no peak charge detection, it would catch fire, as it wouldn't stop charging a fully charged battery. A 500Mah charge is so low that even if it carries on charging a fully charged battery it won't do any damage.

If you want a faster charge time, get a charger that will charge at 2-4 amps. Many have charging rate switches, and will charge a 4000mah battery in less than 30 mins. A quality battery won't need charging as often, the ones that come with HL tanks are pretty low quality. The basic ones are quite cheap, will last for years.
