Brass sheet thickness ?

Afternoon all,
A question for you scratch builder's , what thickness of brass sheet would be the best for ease of cutting and bending while still being able to hold its shape and be strong enough not to get mis-shaped if it was to take a knock

I was thinking of getting a 1mm thick sheet but was wondering if this would be about right for the job
Cheers, Lee.

Hi Lee, I thought I would check an "ABER" Brass exhaust shroud on one of my Tigers so I could give you an answer,
I was very surprised that it was just under .50mm (POINT FIVE OH MM) I was surprised because it was by no means easy to work and has held up very well in use,
I hope that helps.
Shaun.

1mm is a real pain. 0.5 would be better.

Thanks for checking Shaun, very useful info

I may get somewhere between .50mm and 1mm then, as long as it's fairly easy to work with and it retains its shape I'd be happy, it's not going to be used for anything structural so there'll be no stress on it,
Cheers, Lee.

I've been pondering this one, too. My Cromwell build requires tee- shaped miniature hinges, but nobody seems to produce the pattern I need. Because of this, I'd wondered whether I could make my own brass hinges from sheet metal

Hi Roy,
www.an-bri-rc-modellbau.de
Has a full page of hinges listed under --Scharniere/ Schrauben which might be worth a look and I always go to a Dolls House accessories site if all else fails.
Shaun.

Thanks, for the link, Shaun

Although they don't appear to have a tee-shaped type, the ones for the 'Panzer' could be used, but with with vertical part of the 'T" improvised. I see they also sell the rivets used on the Cromwell turret, although the ones I have on order from Chris are made of brass.
