Hi
well ive posted this build on other forums but it hasnt seemed to be of anyones interest  :'(
so i thought id post it here as its a little closer to home :) basically my old panzer 3 kind of died, well the turret stopped working and the tank itself got boring, so i looked into what i could change it into and after researching i had the idea of turning it into a halftrack. was thinking about a famo but the body seemed to hard to make so i settled with an Sdkfz halftrack, i took the front of an old RC Nikko WRC car (which had broke) and with some clever mecano skill attatched it to the front of the tank and wired it into the main circuit board.
suprisinly it worked perfectly and i had full control of the vehicle :D but ofcourse the hardest bit was to create the whole body and how to cover up the upper hull of the panzer 3 to make it fit as a halftrack. i started with the front and worked all the way to the back to make it as relaistic as possible, i know it isnt accurate at all really but i love it! better than any of my tanks as unlike my older panzer 3 and my tiger it can go on grass without throwing tracks and suspension breaking!
so here are a few pictures of my build :) please comment on it and ask any questions you may have.

good idea utilising two broken kits to build a halftrack, do the front wheels turn to simulate steering?

nice work. :D

thanks for your comment  :)
yeah the front wheels work so they do steer the vehicle, but the tracks can still move independantly so on smooth survices it can rotate 360  :P

I really like your idea, did you possibly make some type of deminsional drawings of the body parts? I have the lower half of my Tiger1 h/l since I puchased the asiatam tiger hull with all steel drive and 3:1 gearbox. I would like to follow your example and any help would be a great help as you have already worked it out on your model.Even the gauge of metal used would help. Thanks Saxondog

hey no sorry i didnt make any rawings of the body parts, i basically went straight to building it instead of measuring the parts (thats why its inaccurate lol). it does look difficult but trust me once you get started building the body gets easy when you can see how it all fits together, its easier to use the steering rack from an rc car rather than making a one from scratch as thats what i did first and i couldnt make it strong enough :S
the body isnt made from metal at all, its all basically plastic sheeting, tho the wheel arches and fenders and made from cardboard, the only metal used in this project is the strip on aluminium under the hood just to make sure it doesnt bend :)

What a great use of a Pz3! I must admit when reading the build i had my doubts but that looks really convincing.

Saxondog, Im not sure the Tiger hull would work as well, its a lot wider and longer than a Pz3. Maybe if you built a FAMO onto it, it could work.

thanks Crispy :) did do my best to make it look proper,
yeah yur right their the tiger hull is wider, theirs a video on youtube of a guy who did turn their HL tiger into a halftrack, not like into a german ww2 one but had an rc truck hull ontop, if you have a look on their you should be able to find it :)
