I'd like to know what tool to use to remove the pinion thingy. I've got a tank turning right again and I'm sure its one of the motors on the 5/1 gears..I haven't removed one of these motors before it looks like it needs a special tool.

Cheers

Jake

Jake, Waltersons provide the complete package including spare gears and pinions along with the Puller and a choice of tools to remove as well as to install pinions and gears, I have no idea if they are sold separately but the Waltersons Brass Gearboxes have all this included as well as a flask of gear oil.
Shaun.

Cheers Shaun, I had a look on their website..not much on there! I have a feeling you have to purchase a set of gears to get the puller.

Loads of options here on Ebay under 'pinion remover' search term. Would have posted the direct link, but it's about as long as 'War and Peace'.
Our trusty Max-U52 posted a video here some time ago on gear removal with an improvised tool. However, I bought a puller from Amazon Marketplace:

there's a neat looking Tamiya puller there. :)

Not sure if they work on RC tank gear, but slot car companies make them too. I have a Ninco, but Slot.it are the duck's guts.
