I am a comparative novice and can only speak from limited experience. If you enjoy running your tanks with others then IR is the way to go. My first tank was neither (basic Tamiya), but since adding IR it has been so much more fun. The downside is as a result I have bought more tanks and spent more money trying to convert them.

If you want to join a club and do battle with its members, then IR is the way to go. Heng Long, however, seem to think that Airsoft/BB is the way to go, and have in consequence, abandoned manufacturing tanks with IR. For people like me, though, with no local clubs within 100 miles....nor..it has to be said, the remotest interest in 'blank firing' IR technology, airsoft really can be fun. The gun
actually fires something, and with the Taigen system, can recoil too. Whoopeee.
Target practice with a moving tank can be good for hand eye coordination..and beats the theoretical 'hit' of IR every time, in my humble estimation. But chaque a son gout..comme le Francais dit!!
Try them both.

I have seen IR tanks battling but i do like the the idea of firing a projectile at another tank, You know, i do like the airsoft better, Maybe because i like seeing what happens when i do something.

I was stuck with the same problem myself but then I thought why bother to get IR since no one around me is into R/C tanks. Sure I could drive 6 hours to a meet in southern Virginia but how often am I going to do that? So I got airsoft versions.

If you are going to battle with people, go IR. If you are a lonely tank commander with the nearest enemy far, far away, I'd go with airsoft.

My latest acquisition is IR - I do like the muzzle flash and barrel recoil.
The rest of the "battalion" is airsoft, which I also like.
The nearest tank club to me is 50 miles away, I'm not currently inclined to join it.
I'm happy with either kind.
Projectile for me.

Often we are plagued with pigeons on our slabbed patio so I lay in wait with the Tiger bombed up and ready to pelt them with wee yellow balls?
I find great delight in chasing them and firing the main gun at them to reduce the amount of excrement they tend to deposit?
Never catch them of course but they don't like it 'Up Em' ?

But sure, they will deposit even more in appreciation of your humble effort? Have u ever tried to use corn? It's yellow too and pigeons might like it. Even more deposit to harvest for ur agri business . For the question. I have both systems, but actually I dislike the "slurp.... Click" of the air soft mechanics. Although the new ones have barrel rebound. It feels more like it in the IR tank out of the box
