Hi everyone.
I am just about to buy my first tank which i think will be a Torro 1/16 scale Sherman.
I am not sure which to get a bb or ir model?
I hope you can advise me.
I have been looking and i think the Bristol armoured club is the closest so i will hopefully be seeing them soon.
Thanks

G'day mate, great to have you along.
Taking a punt here, but the I.R tanks seem to have reasonably good recoil systems on them, where the BB vehicles normally have none, but that will vary between brands.
Most clubs do not accept BB tanks unless there are of course safeguards in place so you dont go shooting bits off their works of art !!
Plenty of good direction here for your Sherman build...............but that wont be from me
These Sherman thingos are like a rubic's Cube, many combinations, many frustrations !!

Welcome Artyfist,
Pictures of your tank, please, when you receive it. We love Shermans around here. Industrial works of art on tracks. Don't let our Mr. Bix shy you away from them.
regards,
Painless

Buy those Shermans, I'll have four if Taigen's new 76mm EVER shows up.

Regarding BB or IR, it all depends. At Bristol Armoured Division, no BB firing is allowed. Our tank battles all use the Tamiya IR sytem. As purchased, the Torro IR System is not compatible, so whatever happens, if you wish to battle, it will mean fitting a replacement control board. This in turn will mean the purchase of a transmitter and receiver. At yesterday's meet, we did make one discovery. With a Clark board fitted, a tank with a Taigen receiver was capable of taking hits. Whether or not this will apply to a Torro IR, we would need a tank to find out.
The BB tank is cheaper and you would be more than welcome to trundle it round our battlefield until you decide what to do. There are other members of the club much more experienced than me who can give you more (and probably better) advice.
