Realistic tank speeds

Other than watching YouTube I have never seen tank battles for real at 1:16 scale.
Is there any protocol for tank speeds and any consideration for main gun range and destructive power ?
I'm guessing there isn't and it's a free for all and down to "shooting" accuracy of the driver firing the IR system on each users tank
For example any Variant of Tiger is going to be slower than a T34 or a Sherman, conversely any Tiger in good conditions could take out one of the above at "2 km or more"
I suppose the use of 3:1,4:1 & 5:1 gearboxes could help facilitate this but you would need an envigilator at battles....
Just musing over the whole thing really

The Americans do battling a bit more seriously than us in the uk and had prescribed top speeds based on the vehicles real speeds that the model had to satisfy, trying to eliminate the f1 tank feel you sometimes see. There was some work on using variable resistors to limit IR range but it's hard to police. Something that was suggested at our club was use the henglong mushrooms which have a lower sensitivity for heavy tanks to simulate reduced effective range to tanks attacking and the likelihood of shots bouncing

I agree with EasternFront.
It would be nice to see a little more realism in our tank battles, both in tank speeds and in shooting/armour characteristics.

I agree with eastern too. I find anoying also the people that keeps pushing back and forwards the tank every second behind an obstacle. Looks ridiculous and toylike.

Like people that cover the hit-sensors on their combat-sim gear with their hand or kit ...............get the message butt-first on the charge I can give you the drum.

Agreed guys.
No point in having a realistic scale model that races round like an F1 car.
In my other hobby guys run trains at ridiculous speeds.
So what is the likely maximum range of the IR battles system ?
I don't suppose a 100 m is possible which is the sort of long range some armour could achieve a tank kill with ?

I think this is still being used at organized tanks battles in the US.
SCALE TANK SPEED CALCULATIONS
This is the straight math formula -
25 / ( ( ( X / 16 ) 5280 ) / 3600 )
(x) is the actual speed of the tank you are testing for
Example: Pershing - Max Road speed 25 mph
25 divided by 16 ( 16 represents the scale reduction)
That amount times 5280 (5280 is how many feet in a statute mile)
That amount divided by 3600 (3600 is how many seconds in hour)
That amount divided by 25 (25 is the length of the course in feet)
The final calculation should be 10.91 seconds over a 25 foot course.
[Note: RCACN currently gives a 2 mph waver on scale speed so the Pershing
can make it in stock form and make it easier for others to be in limits.]
There is a table that goes with the speed appendix it has all the speeds calculated out already.
Actual speed (real tank speed-RTS), time in seconds over a 25 foot course for 1/16 scale speed.

Here is another just in case you haven't seen it . Don't quote me but I believe this modification to the "Apple" is now only allowed on tank destroyers (without turrets) and mobile guns.But as I said, don't quote me. There are different groups that use the Danville battlefield and play by different rules.
