Airsoft Gun and I/r in one gun.

This is something I have been working on for two months,as of today my gun turret from creepingdeath willl ship tomorrow. They have also provided the spec drawings for altering a Tamiya barrel to work with there gun recoil and fire system.Part of the barrel machine work involves placing a I/R flash unit in the muzzle brake with only a single 22ga.wire running through a machined channel in the bottom of the barrel, that is the positive side for flash, the ground side is the barrell itself. The biggest problem is having the cpu control to have both system working together. That is why I am posting this idea and asking for any input from other Tankers. My post on rcgroup has gone unanswered,no also that i have talked to blizt and believe their is a less expensive way to achieve this system. Any feedback will be welcome,SAXONDOG

As far as I know the airsoft gun wont work with the IR system with a tamiya barrel due to the barrel is not wide enough for a BB to travel through. Im wondering if the possibility is their though for a H/L barrel to shoot both BB and use the IR system as it is wider and should take the afore mentioned wire, not sure about the led though unless the IR light was fitted via the turret MG , that would seem the feesable option, as for the electronics side I have no idea.

This barrell has BEEN MACHINED and BORED per specifications provided by CREEPINGDEATH.The barrel started out as a stock after market tamiya barrell. The bb will fire very well, even with the added spin.hopefully this will be very accurate. Now the real problem is in the cpu,and the rx-18 board. How to get both fire recoil and IR signel and flash at the same time.Any idea's?

Saxon,,
There is not problem,, any IR Battle system you go with will work off of the recoil, For example the EL MOD system can take a Tamiya recoil and basically its the same signal to fire that Tamiya recoil as the creeping death recoil and shot then the IR shoots of off the battle system that automatically triggers at the same time! The laser pointer and sight is tied into the creeping death turret so they have the set to sight off of anohter signal but it is tied into there turret!

Hi Fit a Darkith system to the tank this will give it full Tamiya compatablity ,this system will fire the BB gun. Ok the creeping death turret recoils and you have the fitting of muzzle flash sorted, to activate the muzzle flash is the problem your having you will have to fit a contact to recoil so that when the barrel is in full recoil it activates the flash a ultra bright led should do ,you could use something like the Heng Long recoil /flash a contact on the side of the gun which is activated when the barrel recoils (see photo at the left side not the micro switch). The I.R. emmitter could be fitted in the mantle on the opposite side to the lazer .When you conect them all together it would fire the BB and I.R. emmitter at the same time (also have extra sound of gun from Darkiths system )then the gun recoils and the flash from the barrel its all mechanical so no need for expencive chips to make it work .This is all still using Heng Long radio if you went to the next stage of say a Spektrum radio you would need the other system DBC RC2 HL from Darkith this has a flash on board the system so no need to fit contacts just wire it in.
This should give you the best of both worlds but I wouldnt go firing high power BBs at someones pride and joy you might find them not to happy to have bits knocked off or even holes knocked in there tanks .

Thanks to Phil and Pete for the great advice, that's why I really like this forum. So many people sharing idea's in less than 24hrs.I have a two solutions to the same problem. Will post results of this part of my build soon. thanks to all.SAX

You can solder the +/- wires from a high intensity led directly onto an RX14 board (and probably an RX18 too), I did that on my bulldog, which has a Darkith unit, and it works fine. The pulse lights up the LED when the gun fires. Thats a neat trick machining the barrel...I always wondered how to have both and the solution is so obvious when somone points it out.

Yep you can use the DBCRC2 and that will give you the IR flash, plus the IR kill shot for battle plus the ability to use a hobby radio 2.4 GHZ,, plus you can add 3 custom sounds to your tank! A custom cannon blast, custom hit sound and a custom death sound! I sell the assembled version of the DBCRC2 with a assembled DBU that has the 45 degree defenses just like the Tamiya units!

Hi folks,
I have fitted the CD turret in my Tiger, and have wired it a bit different for several reasons.
1. My grandchildren like to run the tanks round the garden shooting at the rabbits and everything that moves....even each other and me, so I have built the turret operating system so that I can fire the airsoft or not thus avoiding huge vet bills, bruising of shins and possible eye injury.
2. I don't want to fire at another tank as damage will occur and slaps will be dished out.
3. I don't want the airsoft to fire without a pellet in the breech because damage will occur to the firing mechanism because it is particularly powerful and needs a bit of back pressure to stop the piston slapping into the breech end with maximum force.......This will damage the aisoft mechanism if done too often.
4. I don't want a partial firing of the cannon recoil / airsoft by accident......this has an expensive outcome!
So airsoft is for fun..........ok also getting the neighbours ruddy cat, but that is fun isn't it!!!!!
Here's how I did it working with the CD workshop guys.......
I have run the airsoft wire via a switch to turn it on or off.
( remember that the HL transmitter has a seperate cannon fire button and airsoft button for this reason as well, so you don't want to fire the airsoft every time the gun goes bang and they recognised this fact.)
I use a DX6i transmitter and use the standard cannon fire method, but use chanel 5 for cannon, airsoft and recoil together.
The recoil wire is run via a contact providing power to the motor that drives the barel back to it's extended position. The contact is operated by a miniature timer. This timer is an adjustable timer from a model aircraft shop, it is the type used to operate bomb doors or retractable undercarriage so I can get a long pulse through / from it. This timer is fully adjustable from 0 to 20 seconds by a screwdriver adjusted "pot" and works by sampling the control pulses from the reciever signal.
It is imperative that this battery supply is held on the recoil wire for just over 3 seconds ( the time it takes to fire the gun - recoil the barrel - restore the barrel to fully extended position again) or the barrel recoil restore motor is burnt out. This info was from CD guys over many weeks conversation trying to get CD working with ElMod PROP.
The reason for this circuit is simple...... You need to hold this pulse of battery onto the recoil circuit for reasons previously stated......it is possible that you will release the cannon fire command "switch" before the barrel can drive back to restore position.....if you do, you will burn out the motors. You could release the button if the tank barrel is out of eyesight, such as pointing away from you so you can't see if the barrel is fully extanded.
Unless CD have added this circuit into the turret already, be very careful of possible damage. I worked on this for a long while and advised CD what I was up to so they obviously will incorporate some kind of safety circuit soon. Plus, if you use HL transmitter and rcvr cards then you won't need all this gear, BUT remember to hold the airsoft button down until the barrel is extended again .
Remember also that the Laser could damage someone's eyesight....not proven, but still best avoided.
Some pets, like cats, have special eyes. The back of the eye reflects any light back to the front of the eye in order to magnify any light entering the eye, this gives super night vision. Other animals have this "special eye", and as their eyes are nearer to the ground than ours there is a very good chance of damaging their eyesight if the laser cannon is aimed at them.
I hope that my ramblings prove useful to anyone fitting the CD beastie.
Should anyone wish to talk to me about this please pm me and we can swap fone nmbrs and talk properly.
Six months is all I have been on here and look what you buggers have done to me....it's all your fault...I am close to being a ruddy tank anorak now .....
