Asiatam kv1 tamiya torsion bars

Post by wyvern »

I have an asiatam hulled kv1. I have made the suspension adjustable with set screws but I am still finding the torsion bars are too soft. I have thought about replacing them with tamiya torsion bars but I don't know if they are any stiffer than the asiatam rods. Has onyone tried this? The alternative is the adjustable suspension from rctank.de but I understand this has its own issues.

Cheers

I thought I'd seen stiffer rods from rctank.de as well as the adjustable suspension.

Good morning,
Back when I was building the 'Palace', the tank was simply too heavy in the rear for the existing torsion bars. I used two mods to bring it up to level. I used a brace on the rear four bars and added a extra torsion bar for support to all of the mounts. That was a lot of work but the weight of the vehicle required it. I know that Tamiya has some sort of carbon fiber torsion bars out there which are supposed to be 'wunderkind' for heavy vehicles. That might be worth searching out.
regards,
Painless

The double torsion bars are an option. I was going to see if I could get the taigen torsion bars which I imagine are thicker - but they aren't available. I think what I am going to try is further tweaking the current set up I have with the asiatam bars to see if I can get that to work as I have plastic wheels and tracks . Alternatively I am going to buy some tamiya bars and fit those or make my own from spring steel stock.

Has anyone installed the corleis suspension system in a taigen / asiatam hull. I have doubts that the set screw would grip the shaft well enough. If it will sort the suspension issue it may well worth be installing that system instead.

Sometimes I wish I had bought a second hand tamiya kit...... But then I wouldn't get the satisfaction from fixing it!
