Hello all Tankers
Wondering if anybody have tried this gearbox found on eBay.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/131665310508
Good or bad, all inputs greatly appreciated.
Thinking of upgrading the old gearbox in my HL build Pershing, already fitted with metal tracks & RX 18 board.
Thank you

Before you spend your hard earned on a Gearbox that I have never heard of, Have you been to ---
www.welshdragonmodels.co.uk
Click on "Gearboxes (Heng Long)" then click on New Generation,
You will see an in stock TAIGEN 4 to 1 PRO Steel pair of Gearboxes (Long Shaft) for the Heng Long Pershing, the product code is TG1202-L and they cost £52-99 all shafts are supported by bearings,
I do not know if you are familier with Steve at Welsh Dragon, He is a member of this forum and as straight as you will find, He will not cheat or lie and he freely offers good advise. Highly recommended.
Shaun,

Also, bear in mind, you may get caught for VAT on the imported gear boxes.

The Taigen black steel gearboxes are rock solid, I fit them whenever I want decent gears in a tank. Silky smooth and low noise, plus a lower gear ratio which adds the the realism.

I have these in 2 of my tanks now and a third about to have them. They have bearings throughout, the box housing metal is heavier than normal and steel gears. They run quieter and smoother than any other HL boxes. I really like them. I use white lithium grease on them.... They are actually an HL product. At least the box that they came in to me was labelled as HengLong...

They
do look pretty decent. Indeed, the two-tone powder-coated spray job makes them look a cut above the average, although they may
be just average. They'll be coming from Hong Kong, however, and that could take ages...and add VAT, as has been mentioned. You might even have forgotten the upgrade project by the time they turn up! (I've had that experience..

).
At least give Steve's
http://welshdragonmodels.co.uk a good look

,before you leap...

I bought one of those
5/1 low profile ones for my KV, and they were absolutely
Not sure if I just got an 'bad aple' or what , but they were nothing like my ( several) 4/1 black steel ones . they were noisy( even after brake in and oiling ) , underpower , and bad mesh.
so from me 5/1
4/1
But the most powerful to now I have is the DKLM-RC gearboxes. but they are , sadly not for sherman ore pershing.

Hi everyone

well, i know that i am in Australia and therefor the prices will be completely different, BUT i can say that i have tried all the gearboxes that you have mentioned.
Yes max, the 5:1 low profile in my heavy KV-2 are underpowered

The Taigen 4:1 black metal are superior for low speed and torque.(metal Sturmtiger)
The standard HL nylon are ok if you replace the ratchet gear wheel with a metal one.(HL standard M4)
And Albinator, the red gearboxes that you found, these are HL Ultimate gearboxes. They have thicker side walls, metal gears with bearings, and an improved motor, but they are 3:1 ratio. A good solid gearbox in a fast moving tank -T34.
So, i hope this helps. Its just a question of money and what you are fitting it in.

Cheers

I've not tried them, but you can get the same ones at TankArmy for AU$58 which is a damn sight cheaper than the £53 those ones on eBay are going for.
